mAïté

mAïté, making public service accessible to all.

The first chatbot built for administrative complexity: multilingual, accessible, and reachable on WhatsApp, SMS and Messenger, or straight from your browser in our web app. Deeply versed in the Belgian administrative landscape, and built to travel.

01

Multilingual

Ask in any of 20+ languages, and get an answer in the one you actually speak.

02

Trustworthy

Answers are drawn from official sources only, never from open-web guesswork.

03

Secured and compliant

Built to comply with GDPR, NIS2 and the AI Act from the first line of code, on European infrastructure.

04

Anonymous

No account, no profile, no identity to hand over. Conversations are anonymous, and nothing about you is sold or shared.

05

Accessible and usable by all

Built to WCAG 2.1 level AA: keyboard-navigable, screen-reader friendly, and written in plain language.

06

Wherever you already are

It lives in WhatsApp, SMS and Messenger, the apps already on the phone, and in a web app you can open in any browser, with nothing to install.

Accessibility & compliance

Usable by everyone, by design.

A service that exists to make public administration reachable cannot itself be an obstacle. mAïté's web app is built to WCAG 2.1 level AA and the European Accessibility Act, and audited against RGAA 4.1. The accessibility work shapes each component as it is written, rather than arriving as a correction at the end.

Perceivable

Text alternatives on every image, contrast ratios validated at the token level, content that adapts to 200 % enlargement.

Operable

Every function reachable from the keyboard, a visible focus indicator throughout, and no time limits imposed on the user.

Understandable

An explicit heading hierarchy, plain-language answers, and error messages that say what to do next.

Robust

Semantic HTML first and ARIA only where it adds something, so screen readers stay supported over time.

AI

Signatories of the Code of Conduct for Article 50 of the AI Act

mAïté is a signatory of the Code of Conduct for Article 50 of the EU AI Act, which governs transparency obligations for AI systems that interact directly with people. In practice: it is always clear that you are talking to an AI, never to a human agent, and machine-generated content is identifiable as such.

Depth and reach

Belgian by expertise, portable by design.

Administrative complexity is local. A useful answer has to know which commune, which region, which language regime and which of three levels of government a question belongs to. That is why mAïté is specialised in the Belgian landscape rather than generically informed about it.

Specialised in Belgium

Federal, regional and communal competences overlap, procedures differ between Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels, and the same démarche can carry a different name in each. mAïté is built around those specificities (the institutions, the vocabulary and the edge cases) instead of flattening them into a generic answer.

Interoperable and ready for export

The country-specific knowledge is separated from the engine that serves it. Open standards and documented interfaces mean a new administration, a new region or a new country is a matter of connecting sources, not of rebuilding the product. Ready for export from day one.

PILOT

A pilot at the scale of the Brussels-Capital Region

The first deployment covers the whole territory of the Brussels-Capital Region: nineteen communes, three official language regimes and the full overlap of federal, regional and communal competences. It is deliberately the hardest version of the problem, and the right place to prove the model before it travels.

Frugal & sovereign AI

European by default, frugal by discipline.

Where the data lives and how much energy an answer costs are design decisions, not afterthoughts. mAïté is built on European infrastructure and third-party services chosen for the same reason, and every technical choice is weighed against what it consumes.

Sovereign by construction

We work with European solutions and European providers wherever an equivalent exists: for hosting, for models, and for the third-party services around them. Data concerning public administration and the people who depend on it should stay under European jurisdiction and European rules, not travel to a jurisdiction with a different definition of privacy.

Frugal by discipline

The largest model is rarely the right one. We size each component to the task it actually performs, favour small specialised models over general-purpose ones, cache aggressively, and avoid recomputing what has already been answered. A lighter system is cheaper to run, faster for the user, and less costly to the grid.

Right-sized models

Compute matched to the question, rather than a single large model answering everything.

European hosting

Infrastructure and providers inside the EU, under EU law.

Sustainable IT practice

Eco-design principles applied to the software itself: less data moved, fewer requests, lighter pages.

Open where we can be

Open and auditable components preferred over closed dependencies we cannot inspect.

Our values

Technology should widen the door, not narrow it.

mAïté exists because access to public service should not depend on which language you speak, how confident you are with a screen, or whether you can take a morning off to stand in a queue.

Human-centered

mAïté is designed to improve the experience on both sides of the counter, not to replace the people behind it. It absorbs the repetitive explaining so public servants can give their attention to the situations that need judgement, empathy and a human decision.

Equity and social justice

A social-business model keeps mAïté free for the people who use it. Those who benefit most from clearer public communication are rarely those who can pay for it, so the cost sits with the organisations, never with the citizen.
